Heroes4Hunger was formed in March of 2024. It was founded by Zayan Kajani, a 12 year old, 7th grader who decided this Ramadan he would make a positive change in his neighborhood. He set a lofty goal and vowed to stamp out hunger in Dublin, California, the town he was born and raised in.
Zayan reached out to the Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB) and after learning that in 2023 alone, they had donated over 209,000 pounds to food insecure Dublin residents. There truly was a need. Zayan quickly mobilized and in coalition with the ACCFB formalized a Ramadan Food Drive. This effort is a dual fundraising campaign where participating schools are donating to the Heroes4Hunger Canned Food Drive and everybody is given an opportunity to donate to a virtual food drive. The ACCFB is literally able to provide someone in need food for an entire day for only $1. So for the month of Ramadan, one can literally feed someone for a month for only $30.
This campaign will last the 30 days of Ramadan this year which will be from March 11 to April 9, 2024. After setting up the framework, Zayan reached out to friends in the community to join his team and together they formed Heroes4Hunger. MCC East Bay also graciously offered to sponsor the program. Heroes4Hunger kicked off their efforts when the City of Dublin was honoring all Muslim residents with a Ramadan Proclamation. Heroes4Hunger was honored to speak that evening.
